The Section on Research wants to inform you of several options for service within the Section in 2010.  We encourage you to consider these opportunities.

 

Vice President – Nominations are being accepted for election to a 2 year term beginning July 1st, 2010. 

Treasurer - Nominations are now accepted for election to a 2 year term beginning July 1st, 2010.

Nominating Committee Member – Nominations are being accepted for election to a 3 year term beginning July 1st, 2010.

 

Nominees for these offices must have been active or life members of the Section on Research in good standing for a minimum of two years, and for at least one year immediately preceding their nomination. 

 

Interested persons will be asked to submit an interest statement and biography of no more than 300 words.  If you wish to nominate someone or to nominate yourself for any of these offices, please contact the Chair of the Nominating Committee:

Duties for each office are itemized below:

 

Section on Research – Office of the Vice President

The Vice President (Description from By Laws) shall monitor Association and public policies on research and shall advise the Executive Committee and President on the Section’s role in policy matters. The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President in the absence or incapacitation of the President.  In the event of a vacancy in the office of President while the office of the President-elect is vacant, the Vice President shall succeed to the Presidency for the unexpired portion of the term, and the office of the Vice President shall be declared vacant. This is currently a 2 year position.

Supervises Program Chair/Webmaster - who set up CSM Handouts link on SOR Website with APTA CSM site

February

Supervises Webmaster           

Webmaster:  Sets up ScholarOne Abstract Submission site (Feb. 1st)

Supervision of Program Chair: 

Program Chair: Attend Program Chairs Meeting

Attends Component Research Chairs Meeting         

Attends Executive Committee meeting         

Attends Annual SOR business meeting        

 

Identify Michels Forum Committee.

The Program Chair reports to the VP, but the VP doesn’t attend the meetings.  Program Chair attends Program Chairs’ Meeting

Attend Strategic Planning Meeting: One day (Plus Program Chair and Website Coordinator)

Section on Research – Office of the Treasurer

The Treasurer (Description from By Laws) shall be responsible for receiving and disbursing all Section monies; for developing and proposing to the Executive Committee the Section’s annual budget; for the annual audit of the Section’s accounts; and for reporting on the financial status of the Section to the annual meeting, to the Executive Committee and President as requested, and to the Association as required.  The Treasurer shall also serve as the chairman of the Finance Committee. This is a 2 year position.

 

Duties per month

January

Schedule Finance Committee meeting for CSM

Meet with accountant regarding preparation of tax return

Send draft budget and end-of-year budget report to section officers, finance committee and committee chairs for comment

February

Prepare final budget for presentation to membership at CSM

Inform membership of financial status of section

March

Prepare financial records for audit (Member or Accountant Review)

Apr

Send any final tax-related paperwork to accountant for tax return preparation

May

Send tax return to IRS (by May 15th)

Schedule Finance Committee meeting for Annual Conference

Send tax return and account review to APTA  Finance Department  (by May 24th)

June

Attend section Strategic Planning meeting

July

Submit estimated lobbying expenses to APTA Finance Department

August

October

Solicit Budget requests for upcoming Budget year

November

Prepare draft of budget

Finalize draft of budget

Prepare end-of-year budget report

Contact accountant to schedule date for tax preparation

Renew contract with ScholarOne for Abstract Submission Process AND for Abstract Viewer (date?)

Obtain reimbursement for Abstract Viewer Costs out of CSM proceeds before Section $ dispersal. 

 

 

Section on Research – Nominating Committee Member

Members shall serve three-year terms.  One member of the Committee shall be elected each year.  The senior member of the committee shall serve as chair, unless otherwise designated by the Executive Committee. No member shall be elected to successive complete terms on the Nominating Committee.

Duties of the Nominating Committee:

- Inform SOR membership of positions available each year on the first Monday in October via blast emails and posting on the SOR website. If necessary, second notification of open offices should go out to the Membership by November 15th.

- Prepare a slate of two (2) or more candidates for each open Section office each year and submit the slate of appropriate candidates to the Executive committee by two weeks prior to the Annual Business Meeting (CSM) of the Section.

- Submit ballot (including each candidate’s biosketch and interest statement) to Secretary within a week of the close of the CSM for mailing.

- Communicate with SOR Executive Committee as necessary.
