Welcome to the Section on Research (SOR) website! We have spent a considerable amount of time and energy improving this site over the past year, but we are always looking for ways improve. If you have a comment or suggestion, we welcome your feedback. As you take a few moments to browse the pages, links, and resources I would like to draw your attention to a few new programs.

The Section on Research serves to facilitate the best practice of physical therapy through enhancement of the quality, dissemination, and utilization of research. Within the Section, there are a number of special interest groups that are focused on particular aspects of the research process. I encourage you to become actively involved in the Section and/or one of these groups. If you are unsure about how you might be able to contribute, please send us an email.

On this site, you will find a number of resources dedicated to improving access and collaboration between clinician/scientists. One interesting new resource is our lab directory, which will provide information on many of the active laboratories and research groups throughout the country. If you have not registered your laboratory or group, please do so now. We also have a new Traveling Fellows program, which is designed to provide travel support for individuals attempting to learn a new technique or start a new collaboration with a distant laboratory. There are additional resources for funding opportunities, online databases, and future meetings.

A key benefit of becoming a SOR member is opportunity to interact and network with other members. There are a number of ways to take advantage of this opportunity; attending our retreat , our annual business meeting, or volunteering for a committee or task force. One of the best ways to stay current on SOR events is to subscribe to our newsletter or Facebook page.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Section on Research is to facilitate the best practice of physical therapy through enhancement of the quality, dissemination, and utilization of research.

VISION STATEMENT

The Section on Research, through education, advocacy, and networking, will empower both clinicians and researchers to generate, disseminate, and translate physical therapy-related research that will guide best clinical practice.

GOALS

1. Provide high quality educational opportunities that support the advancement, dissemination and utilization of physical therapy research.

2. Promote research activities and funding by and for multiple stakeholders, including at the individual, community and national/federal level.

3. Provide opportunities for individuals to collaborate, exchange ideas and support each other through interaction, dialog etc with the goal of promoting research.

How The Section Works
The Section on Research is governed by an elected board of directors, all of whom are available to discuss issues affecting the Association and the physical therapy profession. In addition to the Board of Directors, section members participate in committee and task force activities. The actions taken by the Board, committees and task forces are member-directed.

The section president is responsible for governing and directing all section activities. The section delegate participates in the House of Delegates, which is the highest decision-making body of the Association, and makes decisions on issues that frequently have far-reaching implications for the Association and the profession.
